On the south side of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis's Diamond Lake neighborhood, you'll find mural-covered Fat Lorenzo's. Offering italian fare, we obviously chose to order their italian pizzas with hearty crusts.

The menu is a bit all over the place, with specials posted seemingly in random areas of the restaurant, and the menu not matching what's posted on their website. So we recommend checking in to see what rotating pizzas they have available before you order. We taste tested five to be sure we covered most of their offerings

Pizza Alfrenzo

Toppings: Alfredo, chicken, artichokes, roasted red peppers, spinach, ricotta, mozzarella and provolone

Highlights: controlled level of richness

Lowlights: mushy and wet

Fat's Combo

Toppings: italian sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, black and green olives

Lowlights: very average, very boring

Spicy Chorizo

Toppings: spicy chorizo, red bell pepper, red onions, jalapenos

Highlights: balanced level of heat

Lowlights: uneven amount of ingredients by slice, too wet

Pizza New Haven

Toppings: baby clams in a rich herb sauce, topped with Asiago

Highlights: asiago cheese tastes great

Lowlights: dry and bready

BBQ Chicken

Toppings: BBQ Chicken, jalapenos, red onions, bacon, cilantro

Highlights: good sweet and spicy balance

Lowlights: BBQ sauce can be too much for some
